View →What is an industrial electric motor?
An industrial electric motor converts electrical energy into mechanical rotation to drive pumps, fans, compressors, conveyors, gearboxes and other machinery. Most industrial drives use three-phase asynchronous (induction) motors to IEC standards, defined by rated power, speed (number of poles), frame size, mounting arrangement (IM code), efficiency class (IE2-IE5), enclosure protection (IP) and cooling method (IC).
Explosion-protected (Ex) motors are designed and certified for use in potentially explosive gas or dust atmospheres; their protection concept, gas group and temperature class must match the hazardous-area classification of the site.
What to Send for a Motor Enquiry
- Complete nameplate data (manufacturer, type, power, voltage, frequency, speed, current, efficiency class, frame size).
- Mounting arrangement (foot, flange, foot-flange; IM code) and shaft dimensions.
- Driven machine, duty type, starting method or VFD operation.
- Ambient temperature, altitude, IP rating and cooling method.
- For Ex motors: hazardous-area zone, gas / dust group, temperature class and required protection type and certification.
